Oh No! Drury Questionable for Game 1

Like we needed this. On the eve of our opening game of our playoff series against the heavily favored two seed Washington Capitals, we're seeing reports that Chris Drury - the Ranger Captain - may miss at least game one. Drury, who's recent play has helped ignite the Rangers, sat out the season finale against the Flyers due to being "banged up" according to coach John Tortorella.

Now Torts is saying the Ranger Center is questionable for game one. "He's hurt and it's day to day," The Ranger Coach told reporters, "and I don't know how that's all going to work out."

When Michal Rozsival injured his knee a few weeks ago - the Rangers treated the information like a top level government secret - only admitting the defenseman had a "lower body injury". This time, with their Captain - they aren't even admitting that much. Drury's injury is officially undisclosed - whatever that means. (Or as we've speculated before - maybe this secrecy is just a lack of skill for the Ranger's medical team. They can tell Chris is hurt, but cant' tell yet if it's above or below the waist...)

Drury is well known for his clutch play in the playoffs and the Rangers will miss him a great deal if he's unable to play. He's a key member of our special teams - a big contributor in the Ranger's league leading PK unit - and skates on the PP as well.

No one has been called up from the AHL Hartford Wolfpack to replace Drury yet, but Tortorella has admitted to Newsday that this is a possibility.

Speaking of being out of the lineup - yours truly- Dave Pucks has to make one more 2 day trip to nowhere - and will unfortunately drop off the blog from tonight until Thursday night. This should be the last time this happens this season and you have my sincere apologies. As always, I'll leave the keys with Nugman - who is the star player here anyway. You'll never even notice I'm gone. Go Rangers

  1. Have you talked to HR about this much vacation time? I had no idea we had this many days built into our contracts.

  2. Oh, go ahead and make your first round picks already, inquiring minds want to know where you stand.

  3. Good point. I'll get my picks up there before signing off today. I'll do a whole post on it and predict the number of games as well.

And yes, the HR staff at Blueshirt Brothers has informed me I have no more Vacation days this year. And they've let me knwo that an establishment named "Scores" is not, in fact, hockey-related despite the name - so I can no longer submit any expenses from there.

  4. I read somewhere there's a defensman on the Caps with 31 goals. Is that possible? I wish our forwards had that many goals...

  5. You are correct, that would be Mike Green, the best young scoring defenseman in the NHL. It's not just Ovechkin on the Caps, he's just the main threat. Green is maybe the best scorer on the blue line in the Eastern Conference. Nicholas Backstrom leads the team in assists. When you throw in alexander semin and his 30+ goals, those 4 are on the ice at the same time on the top power play unit, so the Rangers have there work cut out for them.
