Rangers clinch 7th - will play Caps in Round One

Well, if I can read my small-screen feed correctly - the Penguins beat the Canadians 3-1 tonight. As Ranger fans - we're not used to seeing anyone score on the Powerplay - not us - and not our opponents either.

But in tonight's Pittsburgh-Montreal matchup, with the score 1-1, there was a 3rd period powerplay by the Canadians that resulted in two goals in 2 minutes. Both shorthanded! So instead of capitalizing on the extra skater - the Habs let the Penguins score twice to put the game away.

As a result, the staff here at Blueshirt Brothers is telling me is that now the Rangers have clinched the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference Playoffs (not withstanding any of the "league office" voices in Sam Rosen's head).

This means - I would think - the chance to give Hank a night off tomorrow in South Philly - and get him rested and ready for the Washington Capitals our first round opponents.
